Our program serve children from 2-5 years with child-centered activities that are developmentally appropriate. Our goal is to give each child an opportunity to develop socially, physically, emotionally, cognitively, culturally and creatively in a safe nurturing, stimulating and organized environment. At our Centers we are flexible with a sense of order and provide each child with time to develop self –concepts, to observe, to create, to enjoy, to play, to solve problems, to rest, all while acquiring knowledge and skills. We are committed to establishing a family-friendly environment that supports the changing needs of young children and their families through daily curriculum planning and parent involvement. The Philosophy of Aleene Logan and Louis A. Fickling Day Care Centers is based on an obligation to keep the child in childhood, founded on the belief that the children are the investment of our future. Children are the most important individuals of our programs. With this in mind, the curriculum guides must be adapted to meet the needs of each child’s learning style which includes children with disabilities as well as gifted and talented. Our program follows the Head Start framework and Program Philosophy. Invest now, benefit later. The Head Start program is based on the conviction that high-quality early childhood care, education and family services pay off in a myriad of benefits to children, their families and society as a whole. Our Curriculum At Aleene Logan/ Louis A. Fickling we are geared toward the development of each child, by using screening tools such as Ages and Stages, Brigance and Teaching Strategies Gold as our assessment tools. There are 4 domains of a child’s development: Social emotional, Physical, Cognitive and language, Creative expression/aesthetic. In addition we also use the NYS Common Core Standards for our Pre-K and the preparation to enter kindergarten. Teachers and Staff All staff members participate in the planning and implementation of age appropriate educational and recreational activities. Our sites have qualified, knowledgeable and nurturing staff that supports the achievement of our program goals and objectives. Bilingual teachers are on staff to provide communication with parents and children in their native language with the goal to making transitioning seamless. Parental Involvement Each center is committed to establishing a Family-Friendly environment that supports the changing needs of young children and their families through, daily curriculum planning and parent involvement. Each center has a computer room, where there are two computers and printer for parents to utilize in job location and education use.
